Bill is a director at Matheney Stees & Associates (MSA).
Bill has approximately 38 years of extensive experience in the healthcare industry. This includes approximately two years with the State of Tennessee Medicaid Program fiscal agent, two years as a large SNF/ICF nursing home controller, and thirty-four years in public accounting serving the healthcare industry. Bill has managed and served as in-charge auditor for audits ranging from small rural hospitals to the largest tertiary facility in Southeast Tennessee. He has served as reimbursement consultant to many healthcare providers with primary responsibility for cost report preparation, reimbursement maximization, and intermediary representation. He continues to have excellent relationships with several MACs. Bill entered public accounting in 1984 with
Bill maintains membership in: the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Tennessee Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, having been President of the Tennessee chapter in 2001-2002. He has served on the Board of Directors of various healthcare related organizations. He is the recipient of the HFMA William G. Follmer, Robert H. Reeves and Fredrick T. Muncie Merit Awards, the Medal of Honor and has twice won the President's award from the Tennessee chapter.
Bill is certified as a Fellow in hfma with a specialty in accounting and finance. Bill served on the hfma National Advisory Council from 2008-2010 where responses to various issues and positions on healthcare as it relates to hfma members are discussed. The Council provides input to the National hfma on how they should respond to issues of importance to hfma's members.
Bill has also recently been appointed to the National hfma Board of Examiners that develops the proficiency testing and study material for National certification examinations. He will serve as area expert in accounting/finance.
In 2015-2016, Bill also served on the National hfma Regional Executive Council as Regional Executive for Region V which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. He worked closely with the chapter presidents to ensure the success of the region and represented the interests of the region as liasion through the Council.
Bill has been a presenter at the Tennessee Society of CPAs Healthcare Conference and has spoken frequently in other venues on healthcare topics.
Bill received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting and Master in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting and information systems from Tennessee Technological University. During graduate school he was inducted into Beta Alpha Psi, the national business honor society.
Bill was recently appointed to the Tennessee Tech Department of Accounting Advisory Board for a two year term. He hopes to to provide input and insight into the new directions and programs the Department is undertaking to shape the future of accounting education. He will do this with other appointed members of the public and private acounting sectors,
When not working Bill enjoys golf, spending time with his wife and fur baby, being involved in his church, helping with his father-in-law's farm, playing with his grandaughter and being a FaceBook Troublemaker.
Tim is a director at Matheney Stees & Associates. He directs the tax department and provides tax and financial solutions for individual and small business clients.
Tim has approximately 36 years of experience in finance, accounting and taxation, including 25 years in public accounting serving various industries and 7 years as the vice president of finance for a healthcare management company
During the past twenty years at MSA, Tim has assisted clients in starting, operating and selling their businesses. His primary areas of expertise include: pass-through entities (partnerships, limited liability companies and subchapter-S corporations), healthcare practices, service businesses, real estate transactions, non-profit entities, and individual tax planning and compliance.
He entered public accounting in 1984 with KMG Main Hurdman and remained with the firm through its merger with KPMG Peat Marwick.
Tim is certified in both Tennessee and Georgia. He is a member of the Tennessee Society of CPA's, the Georgia Society of CPA's and the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga. He is the treasurer of Life Gate Baptist Church, a current board member of Wolf Mountain Christian Camp in Grass Valley, California, and has served as president of the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga and as a board member of Siskin Hospital on the Finance and Audit Committees.
Tim graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Bob Jones University in 1979. He is a life member of the university's Alumni Association and has served on the Financial and Alumni Advancement Task Forces of the President's Advisory Council at the university.
Ramona is a shareholder and associate director at Matheney Stees & Associates.
Ramona has approximately 22 years experience in auditing, accounting and tax, all of which has been in public accounting serving construction, real estate, healthcare and other industries. Ramona entered public accounting in 1995 with a local firm in Cookeville, Tennessee. After moving to Chattanooga, she accepted a staff position with Hazlett, Lewis, & Bieter, where she rose to the level of senior accountant. She joined MSA in the summer of 2001.
At MSA, her primary focus is in accounting and tax services for construction and real estate clients and for small businesses; in addition, she has been involved in all areas of audit engagements.
Ramona is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga where she served as the 2010 President and 2016 Vice President of the Associate Council. Ramona received the HBAST 2010 Associate of the Year award. Ramona also serves on the Tennessee Technological University Accounting Advisory Board from 2007 to present.
Ramona graduated from Tennessee Technological University with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting. During college, she was inducted into Beta Alpha Psi, the national business honor society. She was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.
Martha serves as senior audit and healthcare consulting manager for MSA. In that capacity she oversees audit staff in the field and works on various compliance and reimbursement projects.
Martha has over 34 years of healthcare experience. Over 20 years were with Riverbend Government Benefits Administrator (“Riverbend”), the Medicare Fiscal Intermediary where she managed the Medicare Audit, Reimbursement, and Enrollment functions for all Medicare provider types. She served five years as a Director of Reimbursement for a small hospital chain where she was responsible for all third-party reimbursement areas including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, and all other insurance. Martha has an extensive knowledge of Medicare laws, regulations, and government accounting standards and practical experience in all areas of the Medicare cost report including Bad Debts, Graduate Medical Education, Disproportionate Share Payment, and Organ Acquisition. From 2003 to 2009, Martha served on the BlueCross BlueShield Association’s 12-member Reimbursement Advisory Committee that advised the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services on national Medicare cost reporting issues. Riverbend served as the largest Rural Health Clinic fiscal intermediary in the United States, served over 400 Skilled Nursing Facilities, and served as single intermediary for Organ Procurement Organizations and Religious Non-Medical Healthcare Institutes.
Martha joined Matheney Stees and Associates in February 2010.
Martha has participated in developing and presenting many workshops/trainings to various groups. This includes but is not limited to: Provider workshops regarding the current Medicare Audit environment, various TN Chapter Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) presentations, and Medicare cost report training to OIG investigators. For the past 25 years, Martha has held many positions within the TN Chapter HFMA, including the 2015-16 President, and received many HFMA awards. She is currently serving the TN Chapter HFMA as the 2018-19 Board of Directors Project’s Chair. Her active involvement in this organization provides valuable Medicare expertise to the organization. She is well respected by the provider community due to the involvement in this organization and her leadership at the Fiscal Intermediary.
Martha is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Amy is a shareholder and tax manager with Matheney Stees & Associates (MSA). Amy started her career in public accounting with MSA in 2006 as a staff accountant. In her years with MSA, Amy has gained experience in tax, accounting and auditing serving real estate, construction, healthcare and other industries. Currently, her primary focus is in tax and accounting services for small businesses. She concentrates in pass-through entity and individual taxation, oversees payroll and other information return filings, and enjoys consulting with clients on process improvements related to bookkeeping and payroll functions. In addition, she has been involved in all areas of audit engagements.
Amy graduated from Kennesaw State University with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant in Tennessee since 2009, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA). Amy is also a certified QuickBooks Online Advanced ProAdvisor.
Outside of the office, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband Cole and their two daughters. They enjoy being outdoors and traveling.
Lindsey is a senior accountant who began her work at Matheney Stees & Associates in October 2014. The main focus of her work is preparing income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations, but she also prepares payroll tax returns and does bookkeeping for various clients. Additionally, she was recently involved with Medicare cost report review work. Lindsey is currently a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), and she received her CPA license in December 2016.
Lindsey graduated from Tennessee Technological University in four years with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in accounting, magna cum laude, and a Master of Business Administration. During college, she was a student member of the TSCPA and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. She was also involved in a student ministry called Campus Outreach, where she played the keyboard for the worship band, participated in various Bible studies, and went on two summer mission projects. She learned a lot from her time in this ministry, including how to more effectively study the Bible, share the Gospel with others, and build deeper, Christ-centered friendships. As an added bonus, she met her husband, Jake, through this ministry.
Some of her interests include baking, camping with her husband, running, and playing with her dogs, Zealand and Aussie. She also greatly enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.
Michael served as an intern with Matheney Stees & Associates (MSA) prior to becoming part of the audit team in 2013. Michael primarily performs financial statement audits for various entities, including healthcare, not-for-profit, and governmental organizations. He also assists in the preparation of various individual and form 990 informational tax returns. Additionally, he has also assisted with the completion of Medicare cost report desk reviews.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. While completing his undergraduate degree, Michael was consistently on the dean's list. In 2015, Michael graduated from Liberty University with Distinction while earning his Masters of Science in Accounting degree. Currently, Michael is in the process of taking the Uniform CPA Examination to obtain his CPA license.
Outside of MSA, Michael enjoys playing basketball and golf, and is an avid University of Alabama football fan. Michael lives in Ringgold with wife, Kasie, and daughter, Sophia.
Kayla is an Income Tax Supervisor who began her work at Matheney Stees & Associates in November 2014. Prior to joining MSA, she worked for 5 years in the private sector at a long term healthcare company, where she specialized in pass-through entity taxation. At MSA, her time is divided between preparing partnership, individual, and corporate income tax returns.
Kayla graduated summa cum laude from Lee University with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and a Minor in Religion. While at Lee, Kayla was a member of the Alpha Chi and Sigma Beta Delta honor societies. After completing her undergraduate degree, she went on to obtain her Master of Science Degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University, completing the program with Highest Honors. She is a Certified Public Accountant in Tennessee and a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) and Chattanooga Tax Practitioners.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is an avid fan of college football and spends her Saturdays in the fall cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers.
Justin began his accounting career shortly after graduation in May of 2010. He joined MSA in October of 2011. After a couple of years exploring other career opportunities, Justin returned to MSA in September 2018. At the firm, Justin is currently a Senior Accountant with a primary focus on tax services. He is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University with Bachelor of Science Degrees in both Accounting and Production/Operations Management. Justin received his Certified Public Accountant designation in 2012 and is currently a member of TSCPA. He enjoys spending his spare time with his wife Amber and children Isaac and Cadence. Justin, along with his wife Amber, are also active members of Mt. Union Baptist Church. Other interests include classic cars and both street and off-road motorcycles.
Julie is a Senior Accountant at Matheney Stees & Associates (“MSA”). She has approximately 11 years of experience in financial auditing and tax preparation, all of which has been in public accounting serving the healthcare, construction and real estate industries.
Her primary focus at MSA is performing financial audits for various entities, including for-profit small businesses, not-for-profit and governmental organizations. These audits include but are not limited to: hospitals, nursing homes, Federally Qualified Health Centers ("FQHCs"), and other for-profit and non-profit clients. Julie has also prepared various income tax returns for corporations, not-for-profits, partnerships and individuals.
Julie has also worked as a subcontractor auditor for two different Medicare contractors. She has performed the desk review for various Medicare hospital cost reports with review experience in Bad Debts, Disproportionate Share Payment and Provider Statistical & Reimbursement Reports.
Julie started her public accounting career at MSA after graduating from Tennessee Technological University ("TTU") in Cookeville, Tennessee in 2005 with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting.
Julie is an active member of the Tennessee Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, where she volunteers and assists various committees. She is also involved in the Tennessee Health Care Association and the Medical Group Management Association.
On the weekends, Julie enjoys spending time with family and friends. Her favorite hobby is playing women's and co-ed slow pitch softball. She is also an avid University of Tennnessee football fan.
After completing her education and the CPA examination in 2009, Amber entered public accounting in January 2010 as a staff auditor for Hazlett, Lewis & Bieter PLLC (HLB) where she worked primarily on financial institution and employee benefit plan audits. In order to gain experience as a tax accountant, Amber left HLB in 2012 to join the tax accounting staff of a Fortune 500 company. Amber joined Matheney Stees & Associates as a Staff Accountant in May 2013 and focuses primarily on tax services.
She is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Accounting and Human Resource Management.
Amber is an Inactive Certified Public Accountant in Tennessee and is a member of AICPA and TSCPA.
Outside of MSA, Amber enjoys spending time with her husband, Justin, and their two children. Her hobbies include baking pies and painting. She is the pianist at Mount Union Baptist Church, where she and Justin are both members.
Jesse began his career at Matheny Stees & Associates as a staff accountant in November 2016. The main focus of his work is preparing income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations, but he also prepares payroll tax returns and does bookkeeping for various clients. Before joining Matheny Stees, he worked in Nashville as an auditor for the State of Tennessee. Jesse graduated magnum cum laude from Tennessee Wesleyan College with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Accounting and Finance. He is a member of the TSCPA and earned his CPA license in August. In his free time Jesse loves kayaking, boating, and anything on the water. He is also an avid Vols, Braves, and Titans fan.
Alexis Gorman is a staff accountant at Matheney Stees & Associates (MSA) where she performs financial statement audits for not-for-profits, governmental, and healthcare organizations.
Alexis has two years of experience in corporate finance. This includes 1 year as an intern at Mohawk Industries performing both Sales Tax and Internal Audit duties and 1 year as an Inventory Accountant for Vallen Distribution.
Alexis graduated from Shorter University summa cum laude with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Christian Studies and minor in Accounting. She then graduated from Shorter University with a Master of Accountancy. She is in the process of taking the CPA exam to earn her CPA license.
When she is not working, Alexis loves to travel and be outdoors with friends and family. She also enjoys board games and reading.
